WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Emerson Baseball Team couldn't seem to find offensive rhythm Sunday afternoon as they fell in a tough doubleheader 11-3 and 6-1 to Albertus Magnus in GNAC baseball action. Nick Kelly and Ben Quick took the losses on the day for the Lions to fall to 1-5 and 0-8 on the year while Emerson moves to 7-23 overall and 2-8 in the GNAC.

The Lions kicked off the day sending Ben Quick to the mound, who the Falcons jumped on quickly in the bottom of the first inning, putting four swift runs on the righty to bring in Brandon Topp with AMC holding a  4-0 lead. The Lions scratched back into the game in the third though with James Sullivan starting off with a lead-off single while Ryan Garber matched before a Peter Maltzan double brought in a run before Cal Ciarcia's single up the middle brought in two more and made it a 4-3 ballgame.

The Falcons wasted no time answering though with another run hitting the board in the bottom of the third before they flew off with the game in the fifth inning after a triple opened up the inning to start a five hit spree for Albertus who went on to slap six runs on the board and put the game out of reach in its 11-3 final score.

Nick Kelly took the ball for the Lions in the second game where the Falcons again go off to a fast start in the game, scoring a run in the first that they matched in the second as well and again in the fifth. It seemed to be going all Albertus' way in the sixth inning as well with three runs scoring to make a 6-0 before the Emerson last at-bats.

The Lions put some heart into it in the seventh though as Kolby Woodfield came to shine again with a double down the left field line after which he capitalized on a throwing error by the shortstop to come around to score the only run of the game for the Lions as they could only muster one in the 6-1 loss.

The Lions have a quick turnaround before they hit the field again this Tuesday as they set to host Lesley in a single game Tuesday night in Malden at 7 p.m. at Maplewood Park.
