Men's Lacrosse Unable to Hold Off Becker In loss

BOSTON, Mass. – Donald Welch's 16 saves on the day combined with Dan Gold's three goals wasn't enough to stifle the offensive assault of the Becker Hawks Wednesday night as the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team fell 19-9 at Rotch Field. The Lions are now 1-8 on the year while the Hawks move to 4-10 overall.

The first two quarters of action saw the Hawks come out with the sticks ready as they blasted 15 shots at EC in the first quarter and 19 in the second to keep the Lions reeling as they put up only 16 shots in both quarters alone. The Hawks struck first only 22 seconds into the game as Becker won the face-ff only to see John DeAgelis play set up man to Jeff Petersen to make it 1-0.

The Lions struck back a couple minutes later as Eric Colleran tossed a dime to Dan Gold who pocketed the first of his three on the night to knot it 1-1. While the D held the line for a few more minutes, the Hawks finally broke down the defense as they surged for six unanswered goals into the second period before Eric Colleran set it up for Max Smith to knock it down to make it 7-2. Becker put up two more before the Lions went on a three goal spree with less than three minutes to go in the half as Brady Darragh put in back-to-back goals before it was finally Eric Colleran's time to shine pushing to score to 10-5 headed into half.

The Hawks came out to throw down a quick sneak attack again for a goal in the third before Dan Gold took a cross from Max Smith to finesse one past the Hawks keeper before striking yet again for his third and final goal off a Brady Darragh assist to hold at 12-7.

The Lions ran out of steam then though as BC put up six unanswered again through the fourth period as Emerson's Sam Massey seemed to be the only one with a little bit of life left as Kevin Crompton and Max Smith picked up the assists to close out the game with a 19-9 win.

Up next the Lions will continue GNAC action this weekend as they travel to Anna Maria this Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
