Men's Soccer Edged Out Of GNAC Semifinals By Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A lone goal was enough for the Albertus Magnus Falcons Wednesday as they just barely edged the Emerson Men's Soccer Team 1-0 in the GNAC Semifinal round. With the loss, the Lions move to 10-8 on the year while Albertus Magnus improves to 15-3-2 overall.

The first half saw Albertus hit the gas on the Lions as they went full throttle on offense with 13 shots to Emerson's five. Carter Bowers did work for the Lions in net as he put up six of his eight saves in the half to keep EC alive.

Finally in the 38th minute of action, the Lions defense finally wore down as AMC's James Lucchesi split the defenders with a through ball to Dan Dwyer at the top of the box who cranked in his third goal of the year.

Coming out of the half, the Lions stepped it up a notch, cutting down the Albertus offense to a mere three shots in the half. The match started to get more physical as well, with 17 fouls being committed between the teams in the second half, while the Lions were charged with two yellow cards in the game.

In the end, the AMC defense was too much for the Lions to surpass, as they were only able to put up three shots of their own in the second half to close out the game in a gritty 1-0 loss.

With the loss, the Lions close out their 2012 GNAC Tournament run and will await to see ECAC Tournament selctions.
