Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win of 2017-18 Season, 6-1 at Curry

MILTON, Mass. - The Lions swept all five singles matches on the day, winning six of a possible seven points while picking up their first win on the season 6-1 over the Curry Colonels on Saturday afternoon.

After splitting the two doubles points available for the day, sophomore Bernando Garza (Monterrey, Mexico) got the singles scoring started with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles.

Freshman Thomas McCorkle (Mathews, N.C.) and senior Aren Kabarajian (Huntington Station, N.Y.) were next to earn points for the Lions, winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-3, respectively.

Junior Daniel Okin (Amagansett, N.Y.) provided the match-clinching point on the afternoon with his 6-4, 6-0 win at first singles.

Sophomore Brock Higley (Bedford, N.H.) wrapped up his day with a win in second singles, 6-2, 7-6 (3).

"We played intelligent tennis today," said Lions head coach Aaron Bergeron. "We played sound doubles and smart singles. Our guys were able to execute the strategy when asked and showed more resolve through adversity."

The Lions improve to 1-2 and have a week off before traveling north to Franklin Pierce next Saturday for an 11:00 a.m. match.
