BOSTON, Mass. – A dominant team performance awaited the Emerson Women's Basketball Team Saturday afternoon as they opened their 2012-2013 season with an 88-56 win over Green Mountain College. Kristin Brice led the Lions with 19 points on the day as EC opens up with a 1-0 record.
The first half saw senior Shannon Norton take the reigns early on, pouring in eight points in the first 20 minutes, while teammate Kristin Brice was right behind her with seven of her own and banging the glass for seven boards as well.
EC also displayed a full team effort, with three different Lions dishing out three assists each as nearly every Lion that checked into the game put points on the board. Green Mountain just couldn't seem to hold onto a possession as Emerson forced 15 turnovers en route to a 40-21 lead at the break.
From there the Lions hit the gas as the bettered their first half score with 44 points in the second, this time with Kristin Brice and Kelsey Johnson dropping 12 each. Catherine Cloutier played clean up for EC in the half as well, leading with five rebounds for Emerson.
Passing was crisp again for the Lions as Cloutier had four assists as well, matching Jennifer Myer's four in the half. Emerson stepped up the physical play as well, putting up 12 fouls in the half, but the Eagles just couldn't capitalize as EC's defense was still too stifling with GMC losing nine turnovers as well as they watched Emerson close it out 88-56.
The Lions will now face Mount St. Mary's College tomorrow in the Tip-Off Tourney Championship at 3 p.m. The game will be aired live on ESN at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym in Boston.
