BOSTON, Mass. – A 12 point showcase from Amy Sherman who went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc fueled the Emerson Women's Basketball Team to a 54-43 Tip-Off Tournament Championship Game win over Mount Saint Mary's College Sunday. The win gives Emerson a 2-0 record to open the season as MSMC holds at 1-1.
The first half saw Amy Sherman jump out immediately to sink two quick threes to lead the Lions. EC also dominated in the paint as they poured in 14 points with Kristin Brice leading the charge with six points of her own.
The Lions also saw the bench crew of rookies step up with 10 points added to EC's 29. The Knights were scrappy though as Amanda Smith put in seven to lead both teams in points as Emerson headed into the half up 29-18.
The second half saw EC heat up on offense, hitting .500 as a team with Sherman lighting up for two more threes in the half. Three other Lions posted four points apiece as well.
Mount Saint Mary's was determined though as they put up 15 points on turnovers in the half as well as 14 points in the paint to push the Lions. EC held steady though as they out rebounded MSMC 19 to 12 to hold onto the 54-43 final for the win.
For their efforts over the weekend, Kelsey Johnson and Kristin Brice were named to the All-Tournament Team while Amy Sherman collected MVP honors.
The Lions will hit the home court again this Tuesday as they set to host Wentworth. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
