Women's Basketball Edged By Wentworth 49-40
BOSTON, Mass. – Free throws and points off turnovers made the difference Tuesday night as the Emerson Women's Basketball Team fell 49-40 to the visiting Wentworth Leopards. Kristin Brice led the Lions on the night with a double-double for 14 points and 12 rebounds as EC falls to 2-1 on the year and WIT moves to 2-1.
The first half was as tight as it could possibly get with Catherine Cloutier coming out to dominate the paint with six points and five rebounds. The Leopards weren't easily shaken though as Kendra Kerr dropped nine on EC to open the game.
While the Lions had opportunities at points, 13 turnovers gave WIT nine points in the half while forcing the Lions to send the Leopards to the line who hit 10 of 11 free throws. Elissa Chojnicki and Sienna O'Han both put in four each, with O'Han being more aggressive with two assist and three steals as the teams headed into the half knotted 21-21.
The second half saw the Lions unable to get their offense rolling though and Wentworth's tough offense pulling down eight offensive boards in the half. The Leopards came out full-throttle, besting field goal, three-point and free throw percentages on the half.
Kristin Brice came out with a vengeance in the half though as she put up nine rebounds and 11 points before fouling out with 1:34 left in the game. The Lions just couldn't tow the line though as WIT edged away 49-40.
Emerson will take a quick break over the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action for their first road match-up against MIT this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
