Lacrosse's All-Out Effort Falls Just Shy To Wheaton

BOSTON, Mass. A hard-fought match-up went the way of the Wheaton Lyons Saturday morning as Brooke Sabol's hat trick pushed Wheaton past the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team 7-4. Emerson is now 7-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play as Wheaton improves to 7-5 on the year and 3-0 in the NEWMAC.

The first half saw Wheaton's Brooke Sabol score the first of her three in the seventh minute of play, but the Lions fired back within two minutes as Meredeith Weber was set up for success by Kanika Misra to make it one all. EC took the lead after that with the next goal as this time Weber set up Tayllar Righini to make it 2-1. The lead was short-lived though as a minute later Wheaton returned the score.

Emerson was scrappy though regaining the lead with a little over three minutes to go as Kanika Misra put away a free position shot to make it 3-2 in EC's favor. The Lyons rallied back in the last two minutes though as they put away a goal with a minute left to make it 3-3 before back-to-back free position shots with four seconds left gave Wheaton the 4-3 lead headed into the break.

The second half saw the Lyons start to edge away though as they had three unanswered goals with two from Brooke Sabol to make it 7-3. Victoria Kanaris did work between the posts as well with 11 saves on the day while Macy Day was fantastic on defense, causing three turnovers and scrapping for seven ground balls. Meredith Weber closed out the game with the final goal for her 29th on the season as EC fell just shy 7-4.

Next up the Lions continue NEWMAC action this Tuesday as they travel to Mount Holyoke for a 6 p.m. match-up.
