Women's Volleyball Storm Into GNAC Championship With Sweep of JWU

BOSTON, Mass. – Kat Rice and Alyssa Thorne teamed up for 27 kills on the night as Juliana Tucker posted 38 assists en route to a perfect 3-0 sweep of JWU in the GNAC Quarterfinals. The Lions won 25-21, 25-18 and 26-24 en route to moving to 18-10 on the year and to the GNAC Finals while the Wildcats drop to 14-19 overall.

Set one saw Kat Rice and Alyssa Thorne tear it up with five kills each as Emerson battled off the Wildcats with nine tie scores and three lead changes in the set. Jamie Morgan led both teams in digs with seven as Emerson took a 25-21 win.

Next set saw Alex Lynn step up for the Lions with five kills of her own as Kat Rice just kept swinging for the Lions with a .400 attack percentage. JWU battled again in the set, pushing six tie scores and three lead changes again, but they couldn't get past the Lion defense in a 25-18 loss.

While the Lions would end up winning in three, JWU certainly wasn't going to make it easy on them as they grinded to a 24-23 lead towards the end. Emerson surged, powered by their two blocks. JWU were their own worst enemy though with nine attack errors and two reception errors to give Emerson the edge in the 26-24 win.

The Lions will now travel to Nashua, N.H. this Sunday as they'll set to take on the #1 Rivier Raiders in a rematch of the 2011 GNAC Championship match. The match will start at noon.
