Rixham Hired as Interim Director of Athletic Communications

BOSTON - Emerson College Director of Athletics Patricia Nicol announced Tuesday the hiring of David Rixham to the athletic staff as the Interim Director of Athletic Communications. Rixham joins the staff following one year at Newbury College as the Sports Information Coordinator.

"It's hard to imagine that a few years ago I would be at an amazing institution like Emerson College," said Rixham. "I have learned so much in my time in sports information and after meeting with Patricia, the vision was clear that this was a role I could see myself in for years to come."

At Newbury College, Rixham primarily handled the statistics and pre- and post-game responsibilities for all 13 of the Nighthawks athletic teams.  Rixham says his biggest achievement, however, was the role he played in hosting the 2017 New England Collegiate Conference Softball Tournament.

As a student-athlete, Rixham played four seasons of golf, captaining the Worcester State University team in his last two seasons. He has three career college victories, including the 2015 MASCAC Individual Championship, while leading the Lancers to the 2015 MASCAC team title; the first at Worcester State since 1984. Rixham also earned the NECC Freshman Golfer of the Year Award in 2009, playing for Becker College.

"I would like to thank Director of Athletics Patricia Nicol for seeing such great potential in me," said Rixham. "When I came to Emerson to meet with her, I knew this was a perfect spot to continue my career in intercollegiate athletics."

Rixham graduated from Worcester State in May 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, concentrated in Journalism.  He was also granted the 2016 Community Service in Communication Award at Worcester State; an award given to the student who best promotes communications within the Worcester State community.

"Sports is a true passion of mine," said Rixham. "However, what makes this opportunity unique is that I will have the chance to work with journalism and broadcasting students at Emerson, providing me the potential to not only help student-athletes but also the student body as a whole."
