BOSTON, Mass. - Over the holiday season, Emerson Men's Basketball athlete sophomore Justin Ventura organized a clothing drive through Catie's Closet, an organization that helps combat dropping out of school with the donations of gently used clothing for underprivileged children ranging from kindergarten to high school. With the leading cause of drop outs being the lack of multiple items of clean clothing, Catie's Closet is helping make a large impact through the state of Massachusetts.
Ventura organized the clothing drive with Catie's Closet that spanned from the end of November until the end of the fall semester, which fell three days before Christmas. The success of the drive exceeded Ventura's expectations. He was hoping to gather 300 articles of clothing for Catie's Closet, but he eclipsed that number just three days into the drive. Each day, Ventura would continually check the various donation locations throughout the Emerson campus. At the drive's end, over 1500 articles of clothing were received and sent off to children in need. Ventura noted he believes the clothing can go to assisting "over 250 students from numerous schools around Massachusetts" and thanked everyone who donated. "It was amazing to see the Emerson community come together to help others," he said.
If anyone is interested in donating to the Catie's Closet cause, you can visit catiescloset.org or start setting aside a bag for next year, as Ventura plans on continuing the drive in 2019.
