BOSTON - Coming off a short break, the Emerson men's soccer team get back onto the field after a week where they finished 1-2 and prepare for the start of its NEWMAC schedule. On Saturday afternoon, the Lions head to Worcester to take on NEWMAC foe, Clark University, for its first conference game of the 2017 season at 1:00 p.m.
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
Emerson holds a record of 2-2-1 at the conclusion of last week where the Lions finished 1-2.
The Lions started and ended the week at home as they shouldered a 5-2 setback to Suffolk on Sept. 6, followed by a 6-0 road tilt loss at Salem before they blanked Fisher, 5-0, at home on Sept. 9.
In Emerson's 5-0 victory over Fisher, the Lions saw three of their five goals scored by freshman, including a pair from Galileo Mondol and goals by Shawn Lee (Newport Coast, Calif.) and Parker Hughes (Annadale, N.J.).
MONDOL NAMED LION OF THE WEEK
For the week of competition spanning Sept. 5 to Sept. 12, Mondol nabbed Lion of the Week honors for the first time in his collegiate career.
Mondol contributed his first pair of collegiate nets to Emerson's 5-0 shutout over Fisher on Sunday afternoon.
LIONS IN THE NEWMAC
In 2016, Emerson posted a conference record of 1-6 against NEWMAC opponents.
The Purple have several players ranked within the top five of their respective categories, including sophomore Gavin Faucette (Oakland, Calif.) and Kemp.
Faucette sits fifth in goals (3) and points (6), while he ranks fourth in shots (19).
Amongst NEWMAC goalies, Kemp sits in sixth with 11 saves.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Clark holds an overall record of 1-2-2 to start off 2017 and is coming off a 3-2 loss to Colby-Sawyer on Sunday, September 10.
The Lions and Cougars matched up on September 22, 2016, at Rotch Field where the Cougars squeaked past the Lions, 1-0.
Clark's Sean Munroe sits tied for third in the conference with four goals, fourth in points (8) and second with 23 shots.
In the net for the Cougars is Connor Maguire, who has posted a record of 1-2-2 with one shutout through five games and has allowed eight goals with 15 saves.
