BOSTON, Mass. - The Greater North Atlantic Conference (GNAC) has announced its 2018 Men's Volleyball All-Conference teams, and the Emerson Lions were represented with both senior Nick Rusk (Fort Lauderdale, Fl.) and freshman Marcus Cepeda (Sacramento, Calif.) garnering recognition from the conference.
Rusk was placed on the third team while Cepeda represented Emerson on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Rusk has anchored the Lions as co-captain over the last two seasons and heavily contributed on both sides of the floor in the Purple's eighth consecutive trip to the GNAC Tournament. A recipient of both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week accolades, the senior wrapped his Emerson career with a total of 217 kills, 55 assists, 33 service aces, 162 digs and 18 blocks. He also served .41 service aces per set, a stat that ranked third among GNAC stat leaders. Rusk dished out double-doubles in five matches including a season-best 26 kills and 16 digs against Lasell.
Cepeda, the Lions primary setter, finished his freshman campaign with 455 assists and dished out 6.89 per set. Those two stats lifted Cepeda into the top-10 amongst conference leaders and sat fifth in assists per set and ninth in total assists. The first year's stellar numbers earned him GNAC Rookie of the Week two weeks in a row as well as ECAC Division III North Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week.
