WENHAM, Mass. - It was a strong day of racing for both the men's and women's cross country teams as both sides took home their best team finish this season at the Pop Crowell Invitational, hosted by Gordon College.
Freshman Madison Lynch led the Lions to a fourth-place team finish, racing the women's 5k in a time of 20:39.1 for a personal-best finish of 20th place individually. Sophomore Jeanette Mooney (Waterford, Conn.), and seniors Christina Ashbaugh (San Mateo, Calif.) and Nina DeSilva (Edwardsville, Penn.) all finished within 15 seconds of each other, placing 34th, 35th, and 37th, respectively. Senior Natalie Kenney and junior Chelsea Swift (New York, N.Y.) squeezed into the top-40, finishing with times of 22:16.9 and 22:18.8, respectively.
Freshman Joseph MacNeil led the Lions to a fifth-place team finish on Saturday as he ran the 8k course in 30:04.9, finishing 17th individually. Just behind him, in 18th place, and helping the Lions to their best team finish of 2017 was junior Ethan Michaud (Hudson, N.H.), who ran a new personal-best 8k with a time of 30:14.0. Freshmen Owen Murray, Michael Cerullo, and Kevin Serrano all managed top-40 times.
The Lions have a small period of time off before returning to race in the first weekend of October. Both teams will return on Oct. 7 for the James Early Invitational at Westfield State.
