Weekly Preview: Women's Soccer Takes Win Streak On The Road

BOSTON, Mass.
- With the 2019 season officially underway, the Emerson women's soccer team enters its second week of action riding a two-game win streak coming off back to back 2-1 wins over Regis (Mass.) and Plymouth State this past weekend. The week starts off Wednesday afternoon over at No. 22 Tufts before continuing road action up at St. Joseph's (Me.) on Saturday. 


A LOOK BACK 

  • Finished opening week with a 2-0 overall record 
  • Claimed season opening 2-1 victory on Friday over Regis (Mass.) with the freshmen leading the way on goals by Sage Stack (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Ainslee MacQuarrie (Kensington, N.H.).
  • Had a quick turnaround that sent the Lions up to Plymouth State the following day where they battled to another 2-1 win over the Panthers behind sophomore Grace Cosgrove's (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) two goals both assisted by sophomore Kayla McNamara (Sunrise, Fla.).

COSGROVE NABS FIRST LION OF THE WEEK HONOR 

  • After a five-point weekend on two goals and an assist, Cosgrove represents the women's soccer team as half of the first pair of Lion of the Week honorees. 
  • The sophomore tallied an assist on Friday against Regis (Mass.) and registered both the tying and game winning goals up at Plymouth State this past Saturday.

SCOUTING THE TUFTS JUMBOS 

  • 2018 record: 11-6-2 / 5-3-2 NESCAC - fell to William Smith in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament 
  • Enter 2019 as No. 22 in the United State Coaches' Preseason Poll after claiming its second NCAA berth last fall 
  • Key returners: Sophie Lloyd & Liz Reed - 10 goals and seven assists each for 27 in 2018 both to pace the Jumbos offense

  • Key returners: McKenzie Murphy, Kayla Gooch and Brenna Smith - scored a combined 11 goals in 2018
