BOSTON - The Emerson women's volleyball team bounced back from a sweep by Clark on Tuesday night to take the next nine matches that included a sweep over WPI on Saturday, whom the Lions had not defeated since 2014. The Lions start off the week with a NEWMAC road tilt at Wheaton (Mass.) on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up action on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at Bridgewater State on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.



  • After a busy week full of four matches, Emerson wrapped up the week winning nine straight sets to move their overall record to an even .500 at 8-8 and a conference record of 2-4.

  • The Lions dropped a straight-set sweep to Clark on Tuesday night and rebounded with a sweep across town at Emmanuel (Mass.) on Thursday.

  • Emerson hosted both WPI and Pine Manor in tri-match play come Saturday afternoon and came out victorious in both matches.

  • The Purple started the day off clipping WPI 3-0, a team they had not triumphed over since 2014 before they downed Pine Manor in non-conference play to close out tri-match play.



  • For the week ending on September 24, sophomore middle Kayleen Bertrand (New Boston, N.H.) was named Lion of the Week.

  • In the Lions first NEWMAC win over Mount Holyoke on September 23, Bertrand produced a team-best 11 kills to go along with a pair of aces and digs.

  • Bertrand currently ranks tied for 10th within the NEWMAC with 24 aces.


  • Through 16 matches, Emerson sits seventh among NEWMAC teams with Wellesley holding the top spot, followed by MIT and Babson tied in second, Coast Guard in fourth, Springfield in fifth and Wheaton in sixth.

  • Freshman Grace Tepper (Kensington, Md.) continues to rank within the top five in the kills category, sitting in third with 205 kills and .366 swings per set, along sitting in seventh with 26 aces.

  • Junior Moira Brennan (Glenview, Ill.) comes in the fifth spot within assists per set with 8.36 and third with 460 helpers.

  • Junior Fara Cohen (Morristown, N.J.) sits in seventh with 215 digs, while classmate Kelley Guerra (Randolph, N.J.) also ranks seventh on the defensive end with 40 blocks.



  • The Lyons of Wheaton (Mass.) currently hold a record of 12-7 with a 2-3 record against NEWMAC opponents, having won its last three straight matches.

  • Wheaton is coming off its most recent win on Saturday where the Lyons blanked Eastern Nazarene, 3-0 at home.

  • The two teams last met on October 4, 2016, as Emerson was blanked 3-0 on Wheaton's home hardwood.

  • The Lyons have several players within the top five of their respective categories including Stephanie Martin in kills (5th - 234) and Becca Houghton and Nikita Selivan in aces per set (Houghton, 1st - .82 and Selivan, 2nd - .63).


  • Bridgewater State enters Thursday's matchup with a 4-12 record, 2-1 against MASCAC opponents.

  • The Bears were swept in tri-match action at Johnson & Wales this weekend, taking a 3-0 setback to both the hosts and Wesleyan (Conn.).

  • Emerson and Bridgewater State faced each other on October 27, 2016, at Brown & Plofker Gym as the Lions took a home sweep over the Bears, 3-0.
