The Lead: The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team continues its away schedule to start the season with two matches this week, starting against Tufts on Wednesday before closing out the week against Amherst and Western New England in a Tri-Match on Saturday.

LIONS START FAST

  • Emerson opened up their season in a Tri-Match hosted by UMASS Boston, facing both the Beacons and New England College on Saturday.
  • The first match against New England College saw the Lions fall behind early in the first set, but roar back to earn the sweep over the Pilgrims.  Grace Tepper (Kensington, Md.) led the way with 18 kills and Caroline Bond (Macungie, Penn.) tallied 28 assists in her collegiate debut.
  • The Lions remained resilient against UMASS Boston, taking down the Beacons in five sets after falling behind 2-0.  Tepper continued her impressive start to the season tallying 31 kills in the five set match.

SCOUTING THE JUMBOS

  • The Lions travel close by to Medford, Massachussets to take on the Jumbos on Wednesday night for their first match of the season.
  • Sophomore Cate Desler returns for her second season, ending alst year as the Jumbos' lead attacker with 247 kills.  Tufts also reurns their their top attacker Maddie Stewart who had 202 kills in 2018.
  • Rachel Furash and Ariel Zedric finished 2018 with 679 and 335 assists respectively, and both players look to feature in 2019.

SCOUTING THE MAMMOTHS

  • Amherst opens their season on Friday night against fellow NEWMAC conference member Smith before taking on the Lions at 1:00pm on Saturday.
  • Emily Kolsky and Jamie Dailey both return as the top attakers from 2018 with 326 and 293 kills respectively.
  • Charlotte Duran returns for her senior season after posting 927 assists in 2018.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS

  • The Golden Bears have starter their season playing four matches and coming out with a 1-3 record.
  • Ashley Matthews enters the week with 38 Kills to lead the team while Cassandra Holems and ailey McDonnell have 27 and 22 respectively.
  • Caitlyn Sibiskie has 87 assists in the four matches for the Golden Bears.
